Destin, Florida is famous for its powder-fine, white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and fun Spring Break vibe. It’s panhandle location on the Gulf of Mexico draws avid fishers and dolphin-spotters, kayakers, and tourists looking to relax.
Here are the best gluten-free restaurants in Destin, Florida.
Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Destin, Florida
Destin isn’t the best place in the world for gluten-free dining, but you’ll still find plenty of good restaurant options here. These were my favorite eateries:
Louisiana Lagniappe Restaurant: The food and service at this upscale restaurant were impeccable. As soon as I asked for the gluten-free menu, the waiter asked me if it was Celiac or a preference, and assured me he’d make sure I was safe. He also went out of his way to say if I didn’t like anything on the gluten-free menu, they could make whatever I wanted. Don’t miss the incredible creme brulee – the waiter even brought my dessert out before anyone else’s, as he supervised it being made to ensure it would be safe for me. Sit outside on the deck for amazing sunset views if you can! Another selling point for Louisiana Lagniappe – it takes reservations (most restaurants in Destin don’t, so you usually have to wait for 1-2 hours anywhere else).
LuLu’s Destin: LuLu’s takes gluten-free (and allergies) VERY seriously. They have a number of allergy menus (including gluten, seafood, soy, peanut) so it’s easy to see what you can safely order. Before I visited, I emailed the restaurant to ask about their allergy protocols, and the manager responded: “With someone who has Celiac Disease, all items would be cooked separately in skillets in a separate area of the kitchen to ensure no cross contact when we prepare your meal. Our staff takes dealing with anyone with an autoimmune disorder very seriously. We do have some dedicated fryers for our allergy program, but they are only to prepare tortilla chips for multiple types of allergies. So I’m sorry to say we do not offer any fried items on our gluten-free menu except for our tortilla chips.”
When I let the waitress know I had Celiac Disease, she had a manager come over and take my order. When my food was delivered, they made sure to specify everything was gluten-free. Enjoy a frozen drink and chips and guacamole here while sitting in the spacious outdoor area overlooking the water – the food and service are great!
NaturBaker: NaturBaker is a 100% gluten-free bakery in Destin! It’s a tiny store with limited options, but it’s definitely worth a visit. The protein muffins are perfect to take on your flight home, and the energy bars are delicious and great for the beach. They also have cookies and donuts!
Back Porch Restaurant: Offers an extensive gluten-free menu and seemed to take allergies seriously.
Jasmine Thai: Gluten-free items are clearly marked on the menu – and it’s great Thai food!
Where to Stay in Destin, Florida
The best place to stay in Destin is the Emerald Grande Condominiums at HarborWalk Village. This hotel has a prime location on the HarborWalk (the boardwalk where all the bars and restaurants are), as well as beautiful water views. The condos available for rent are spacious and modern, and come equipped with everything you need (including full-sized kitchens so you don’t have to eat out for every meal.) There are plenty of different condo configurations available, from one to three bedrooms that are great for families who want a lot of space. The resort itself has multiple pools overlooking the water.
