Best Gluten-Free Pizza in Edinburgh

Edinburgh, the beautiful capital of Scotland, is known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant food scene. As someone who loves pizza but needs to follow a gluten-free diet, I am always on the hunt for the best gluten-free pizza options in the city. Fortunately, Edinburgh has plenty of great options that cater to a wide range of dietary needs, ensuring all pizza lovers can indulge in their favourite treat without feeling like they’re missing out.

While wandering through the charming streets of Edinburgh, it’s easy to find an array of restaurants that offer gluten-free pizza options. From traditional Italian pizzerias with classic flavours to American-style pizza joints with creative toppings, there is something for everyone. Some of Edinburgh’s most popular places for gluten-free pizza include Mamma’s American Pizza, Origano, and La Favorita Pizzeria.

Top Gluten-Free Pizzas in Edinburgh

Mamma’s American Pizza

Best For: American Style Pizza
Location: Grassmarket

Mamma’s American Pizza is located in the grassmarket in the centre of the old town. It’s a really nice spot, and in the summer, they have tables set up outside so you can enjoy your pizza in the sunshine. All their pizzas can be made on a gluten-free base, which is available in 2 different sizes. I went for the Matador, and the base was really tasty. If you don’t fancy pizza, there are a few other gluten-free options on their menu for you to choose and they even have two different gluten-free beers if you’re a beer drinker.

Origano

Best For: Fresh wood-fired pizza
Location: Leith

Origano is, In my opinion, the best gluten-free pizza you’ll find in Edinburgh. This charming pizzeria specialises in wood-fired pizza, which can all be made on a gluten-free base. Often, gluten-free bases can be pretty disappointing, but this is easily one of the best I have ever had. My top pick would be the Vesuvio because I love spicy pizza. So, if you love spicy foods, give this one a try. If not, the options are extensive, so you’re sure to find something to your taste!

La Favorita

Blue La favorita resturant in edinburgh

Best For: Pizza delivery
Location: Leith Walk

Part of the Vittoria family of restaurants, La Favorita can be found on Leith Walk and offers delivery/collection. So this is a great option if you’re looking for an Italian-style pizza delivered. The gluten-free base is super tasty and a really generous size, so you don’t feel like you’re missing out. I went for the Primavera and really enjoyed it.

Note: This is now delivery/takeaway only

Pizza Geeks

Best For: Neopolitan-Style Pizza
Location: Haymarket & Leith

Pizza Geeks is a trendy pizzeria worth checking out. They have 2 locations in Edinburgh, one in The Shore and the other in Haymarket. They have some pretty wild and wonderful Pizza toppings; all can be made on a Gluten-free base. I went for the Pineapple Express with Ham Hock, Pineapple and Sriracha, which I really enjoyed. Some of the pizzas have haggis and black pudding as toppings, which are not typically gluten-free, so be sure to talk to your server about your requirements for ordering because they aren’t your typical pizza toppings.

Vittoria

Front of grey vittoria restaurant in Edinburgh

Best For: Family Friendly atmosphere
Location: George IV Bridge & Leith

As part of the Vittoria family, Vittoria is a well-regarded Italian restaurant in Edinburgh at the top of Leith Walk. The menu is massive, and all allergens are listed, so finding something to suit your needs is pretty easy. All pizzas can be made on a gluten-free base, which is a generous size. They also have gluten-free pasta, so they can adapt their pasta dishes to be gluten-free for you. If you order anything gluten-free, it’ll come out with a little flag on it, too so you’ll know the chefs have taken care to ensure your meal is prepared safely.
